About the Nordic AOSD Study
The aim of the study is to compare a new treatment modality, interference with the interleukin-1 (IL-1) pathway with the biologic antirheumatic agent IL-1ra (receptor antagonist), to treatment with an established disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD), considered as standard treatments in rheumatic diseases with known safety profiles, and known to improve many signs and symptoms similar to those seen in AOSD.
Recently, positive case reports have been published on the efficacy and safety of IL-1ra in AOSD.
The patients, diagnosed with AOSD, are recruited in this open, randomised, comparative, multi-centre study, are refractory to a combination of corticosteroid and DMARD. The two groups are assessed for efficacy, safety and health-related well-being.
